Overview of Baby Dedication​​

Baby dedication is a celebration and commitment service held by churches in which parents express their commitment to raise their child according to Christian principles. They promise to nurture their child’s faith and guide them in God’s ways. The church community also pledges to support the parents in their parenting journey.

​Purpose and Meaning

• Commitment to God: Parents express their understanding that their children belong to the Lord. They recognize that their little ones are entrusted to them for nurturing and guidance.

• Raising Children in the Faith: During the dedication, parents commit to raising their child according to Christian principles. It’s not baptism; that decision comes later when the child is old enough to understand and choose for themselves.

 

The Ceremony

• Presentation of the Child & Parents: The pastor introduces the child and parents, emphasizing their commitment to raise the child in a way that honors God.

• Parental Affirmations to God: The parents affirm their gratitude, surrender, and dedication to God. They promise to provide for their child’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs.

• Church Affirmations to God: The congregation affirms their support to the parents to aid them in the sight of God. They promise to cover them in prayer as well as providing whatever tangible support they ca.
