What is the Trustee Ministry?​

The Trustee Ministry is a team of faithful servants entrusted with helping care for the church’s property, resources, and practical affairs. Trustees work in partnership with the Pastor and church leadership to help ensure that the church operates responsibly, maintains its facilities, and remains positioned to carry out its ministry effectively.

Trusteeship is ultimately an act of stewardship. Trustees help safeguard what God has entrusted to the church so that those resources can continue to support worship, ministry, outreach, and the overall mission of the congregation.

 

What does the Trustee Ministry do?​

The Trustee Ministry serves the church in a variety of practical and administrative ways. Responsibilities may include:

​

• Helping oversee and maintain church buildings, grounds, equipment, and other property.

• Assisting with matters related to church finances, assets, insurance, contracts, and other administrative responsibilities as assigned.

• Helping ensure church resources are handled responsibly and with accountability.

• Identifying facility needs, repairs, improvements, and long-term property concerns.

• Supporting the Pastor and church leadership in carrying out decisions involving the church’s physical and financial resources.

• Helping protect the interests of the church in business, property, and legal matters when appropriate.

• Serving behind the scenes to provide a stable foundation that allows other ministries to function effectively.

 

The Trustee Ministry exists to serve faithfully, protect responsibly, and provide wisely for the present and future needs of the church.

 

What are the qualifications to serve as a trustee?​

A trustee should be a spiritually mature and dependable member of the church who demonstrates Christian character and a genuine commitment to the ministry. While specific qualifications may also be established by the church’s bylaws or governing documents, a trustee should generally demonstrate:

• A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and the teachings of Scripture.

• Faithfulness in worship, service, and the life of the church.

• Integrity, honesty, and sound moral character.

• Spiritual maturity and good judgment.

• A cooperative spirit and the ability to work well with the Pastor, church leadership, fellow trustees, and congregation.

• Responsibility and discretion when handling confidential, financial, or sensitive matters.

• A willingness to place the needs and mission of the church above personal preferences.

• Good stewardship in managing responsibilities, resources, and assignments.

• Dependability and a willingness to serve wherever needed.

• A reputation that reflects positively upon Christ and the church.
